RICHARDSON, Texas – Tarleton State junior lineback Marc Martinez earned Lone Star Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors according to a release from the league office on Monday.
Martinez was all over the field for the Texans this past Saturday as he anchored a defense that limited, then No. 13-ranked Midwestern State, to just 79 yards on the ground. The 75 yards on the ground turned out to be the Mustangs’ lowest rushing total since 2009. Martinez led the Texans with a game-high 13 tackles in Tarleton’s 27-24 upset win over the Mustangs, with seven of those tackles coming unassisted. He had one tackle-for-loss and forced a fumble as well.
The Texans will play its first true road game of the season this Saturday as the team travels to San Angelo to face the Angelo State Rams. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Angelo Stadium.
