UMHB’s Cheyenne Dowdey named ASC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball player Cheyenne Dowdey has been named the American Southwest Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 7th.

Dowdey, a sophomore from Hallettsville, Texas (Hallettsville H.S.), led the Cru to a 3-1 record on the road in ASC action last weekend. Dowdey totaled 32 kills and two assists offensively for the Cru. She also recorded a team-high eight solo blocks and 24 block assists in four matches. Her 13-block performance against East Texas Baptist is the highest number of blocks in a match by an ASC athlete this season and three more than the closest competitor. Dowdey currently leads the conference and is ranked fourth in the nation in blocks per set at 1.34. Her 107 total blocks (34 solo blocks, 73 block assists) are the most in Division III this season.

UMHB is 19-3 overall this season and 8-1 in ASC action. The Cru returns to the court this weekend with conference matches at Concordia. UMHB will face the Tornados Saturday, Oct. 12th at 11:00 AM and Sul Ross State at 1:00 PM.
