UMHB Women’s Soccer falls to East Texas Baptist 2-1

MARSHALL, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to East Texas Baptist University Thursday afternoon in Marshall. The loss drops the Cru to 8-2 on the season and 3-2 in American Southwest Conference action, while the Tigers improve to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Kathryn Parker gave UMHB an early 1-0 advantage in the 27th minute with a chip shot above the goalkeeper’s head. Christina Robles responded for ETBU with a converted penalty kick in the 36th minute, evening the score at 1-1 going into halftime. The game remained tied until the 79th minute when Paola Bear found the back of the net off an assist from Kelsey Biscoe to give the Tigers the 2-1 victory.

Parker led the Cru with 10 shots, ranking her fourth in shots in a contest in the UMHB Division III record book. Eliza Faillace and Sophia Sanchez added three shots each to UMHB’s 23 shot total. The Cru put 11 shots on goal and limited the Tigers to just eight shots in the contest. Courtney Craig took the loss in the net for UMHB, recording four saves. UMHB took eight corner kicks in the match.

The Cru will return to action Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at Houston-Victoria. UMHB will resume conference action Thursday, Oct. 17th in a 5:30 p.m. match at the University of Texas at Dallas.
