Jakyle+Williams-Harris-mugshotLA GRANGE – Weimar senior running back JaKyle Harris rushed for 75 yards in a 45-0 District 13-1A, Division I win over Thrall this past Friday night.

On Monday night, Harris was in the Fayette County Jail, charged with first-degree murder.

Harris, 18, is accused of shooting and killing Dustin Donovan Smith, 19, of New Ulm, during an altercation early Sunday morning while attending a Halloween party at the VFW Hall at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange, KHOU-TV reports.  Smith, who suffered a shotgun wound to the back, died at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

Harris is also charged with shooting Quinton Harris, of Sealy, in the arm, according to a press release from the La Grange police department.

JaKyle Harris was arrested at his home in Weimer on Sunday. Police say they recovered a pistol behind his home. Two other people were also arrested, accused of bleaching the gun so police wouldn’t be able to track it.

Harris is now in jail on a $750,000 bond.

Weimar athletic director and head football coach David Husmann declined to talk about Harris’ arrest.
