HEWITT – Hewitt Midway scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter, including 14 in 10 seconds, to rally pass Harker Heights 45-21 at Panther Stadium on Friday night.
Midway quarterback Ben Hicks passed for 214 yards on 17 of 24 passing and connected on four touchdown passes, including a 13-yard toss to Xavier Hailey and a 20-yard score to Jayson Clemens to give the Panthers (7-2, 5-3 District 8-5A) the lead for good in the second quarter. Hicks finished the second quarter explosion with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Devontre Stricklin with 1:39 left.
The Knights (2-7, 2-4) had led twice, on a 1-yard pass to Bobby Etheridge from Troy Smith to start the scoring and on an 18-yard touchdown run by Smith that gave Harker Heights a 14-10 lead.
Smith was 9 of 21 passing for 137 yards and added 11 carries for 94 yards. Marcus Anderson II added 91 rushing yards on 32 carries for the Knights.
Midway travels to Belton on Friday night to finish up league play while Harker Heights will host Copperas Cove at Hood Stadium on Ft. Hood.
