UMHB’s Drew Owen and Baylor Mullins named ASC Players of the Week

BELTON – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football players Baylor Mullins and Drew Owen were both honored by the American Southwest Conference for their performances in the Cru’s 80-0 victory over Howard Payne University on Saturday. Mullins took ASC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight week and Owen was named ASC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Mullins, a freshman linebacker from Merkel High School, returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown to give him interception returns for scores in back-to-back games. Mullins added four tackles, two pass break-ups and 0.5 tackles for loss to lead a Cru defense that held the Yellow Jackets to 144 total yards of offense in a shutout performance.

Owen, a freshman kicker from Midway High School, went 9-9 on extra points and also hit a 21-yard field goal for the Cru to account for 12 total points in the victory. Owen leads UMHB in scoring on the season with 76 points.

The UMHB football team is 8-0 overall and 4-0 in ASC play following the win over Howard Payne. The Cru will return to action with a 1:00 PM home kickoff against East Texas Baptist University this Saturday at Crusader Stadium.
