Dave Campbell’s TexasFootball.com editor Greg Tepper has put together the Week 10 play-off scenarios for 5A, 4A and 3A districts around the great state of Texas, here is what he has for Heart Of Texas area teams:
How It Works: The top four teams from each 5A district advance to the playoffs. Of those four teams, the two with the highest enrollment go to the Division I bracket; the two with the lowest enrollment go to the Division II bracket. The two brackets do not interact. Note: Every district breaks ties in different ways. We’ve made an exhaustive effort to reflect the most accurate tiebreaker information we can find, but it can sometimes get fuzzy. If you see a correction, please contact editor Greg Tepper at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Clinched Berth: Hewitt Midway (DII), Temple, Killeen Shoemaker
Still Alive: Copperas Cove, Killeen, Killeen Harker Heights
Key Games: Copperas Cove at Killeen Harker Heights, Killeen at Temple
Killeen is in with a win over Temple. Copperas Cove is in with a win over Harker Heights anda Temple win over Killeen. Harker Heights is in with a win over Copperas Cove and a Temple win over Killeen.
Clinched Berth: Crowley (DI-1), Everman (DII), Burleson (DII-2)
Still Alive: Waco, Cleburne
Key Games: Everman at Waco, Waco University at Cleburne
A lot of moving parts, but things are also pretty set. The last playoff spot will go to either Cleburne or Waco. Waco is in with a win over Everman or a Waco University win over Cleburne. Cleburne is in with a win over Waco University and an Everman win over Cleburne. Meanwhile, as far as seeding is concerned, things could get dicey. Cleburne clinches the top DI seed with a win over Joshua, and Everman clinches the top DII seed with a win over Waco. If Waco beats Everman, they’re not only in; they’d be the top seed in Division II
Clinched Berth: Stephenville (DI-1), Alvarado (DI-2), Glen Rose (DII), Hillsboro (DII)
Key Games: Glen Rose at Hillsboro
Just DII seeding in this one. Winner of Glen Rose-Hillsboro is the top DII seed, and the loser is the second DII seed.
Clinched Berth: Liberty Hill (DII-1)
Still Alive: Burnet, Brownwood, Llano, Lampasas
Key Games: Burnet at Lampasas, Brownwood at Llano, Liberty Hill at Gatesville
Three spots for four teams; someone’s getting left out. The winner of Brownwood-Llano is in. Burnet is in with a win over Lampasas or the combination of a Brownwood win over Llano anda Gatesville win over Liberty Hill. Lampasas is in with a win over Burnet and a Llano win over Brownwood. A three-way tie for the final playoff spot between Burnet, Llano and Lampasas would occur if Lampasas beats Burnet and Brownwood beats Llano.
Clinched Berth: Lorena (DII), Robinson (DI), Waco Connally (DII), Waco La Vega (DI)
Key Games: Lorena at China Spring, Robinson at Waco La Vega, Waco Connally at West
Though the teams are set, all three games matter with regards to seeding. Lorena clinches the top DII seed with a win over China Spring and a West win over Connally. Connally clinches the top DII seed with a win over West or a China Spring win over Lorena. Robinson-La Vega is a game for the top DI seed.
Clinched Berth: Navasota (DI), Rockdale (DII-1), Taylor (DI), Madisonville (DII-2)
Key Games: Navasota at Taylor
Navasota and Taylor will duke it out for the top seed in DI; loser gets the second seed.
Clinched Berth: Fairfield (DII-1), Palestine (DI-1)
Still Alive: Mexia, Groesbeck, Rusk
Key Games: Mexia at Rusk
As tantalizing as Fairfield-Palestine is, it has no playoff implications. Mexia-Rusk is critical. If Mexia wins, both Mexia and Groesbeck (who is idle) will clinch. If Rusk wins, it’ll force a three-way tie between Mexia, Groesbeck and Rusk for the final two playoff spots.
