RICHARDSON, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Concordia Texas in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference tournament Thursday afternoon in Richardson. The win marks just the second postseason win for the program and first since 2009. UMHB advanced to 14-3 on the season while the Tornados ended their 2013 campaign at 6-7-3.
The match remained scoreless until the 90th minute when Allison Porter found Kathryn Parker for the game-winning goal with one second left in regulation. Parker’s goal tied a school record for game-winning goals in a season (seven). UMHB outshot the Tornados 22-12, led by Parker’s 11 and Porter’s four. Courtney Craig earned the win in the goal for the Cru, recording seven saves in 90 minutes played. UMHB took five corner kicks in the match and put nine shots on goal.
The Cru will return to face No. 2 seed and tournament host Texas-Dallas tomorrow at 2 p.m. The winner of that match will advance to face the winner of No. 1 seed Hardin-Simmons and No. 5 seed Texas Tyler in the championship match scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9th at 1 p.m.
