BELTON – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Deshon Kinsey has been named American Southwest Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for this week. Kinsey was honored for his performance in the Cru’s 65-10 victory over East Texas Baptist.
Kinsey, a junior linebacker from Mart High School, tied a UMHB single-game record with 18 tackles in that win. Eight of his tackles were solo stops and he also added 3.5 tackles for loss. Kinsey led a defense that held the Tigers to just 53 rushing yards and 290 yards of total offense in the game. He shares this week’s honor with Louisiana College linebacker Dominic Graham. This is the second player of the week honor for Kinsey this season.
UMHB is now 9-0 overall and 5-0 in ASC play following the win over ETBU. The Cru clinched at least a share of the ASC title and guaranteed itself a tenth straight berth in the NCAA Division III National Championships with that victory. UMHB will close out the regular season with a 1:00 PM kickoff at Mississippi College (4-5, 4-1 ASC) this Saturday.
