BELTON – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team dropped a 76-74 decision to Austin College Saturday afternoon in Belton. The loss opens the Cru at 0-1 on the season while Austin College moves to 1-0.
The game opened up tight with no team leading by more than three points until the Cru went on a 6-0 run to grab a five-point lead on Austin College. UMHB held that lead throughout the first half, holding a 38-34 halftime lead over the Roos. The Cru held a lead until halfway through the second half when Austin College evened the game at 57 all. Neither team was able to pull away until the used two free throws with just under 20 seconds remaining in regulation to grab the two-point victory over UMHB.
Taylor Tucker led UMHB with 18 points, showing 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. Alyssa Dean, Macy Moore and Kourtney Bevers each put up double-digit points for UMHB while Jovana Miles led both teams with 10 rebounds. The Cru out-rebounded the Roos 36-29 in the contest. UMHB forced 15 turnovers and recorded five steals, shooting 38 percent for the game and 81 percent from the free-throw line in the contest.
Erin Riley, Christina Kime and Brittany Stepanski all recorded double-digits for the Roos with 16, 16 and 15 points respectively. Riley led the Roos to 29 total rebounds with six and recorded two steals for Austin College. The Roos shot 51.9 percent in the game and 78.9 percent from the free-throw line.
UMHB will return to action Saturday, Nov. 30th at 2 p.m. against Southwestern University on the campus of Trinity University in San Antonio. UMHB will face Trinity the next day at 4 p.m.
