COPPERAS COVE – The teams are set for the National Junior College Athletic Association game for the 2013 CHAMPS Heart Of Texas Bowl. Sixth-ranked Trinity Valley Community College (Texas) will play 12th-ranked Mesa Community College (Arizona) at Bulldawg Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 11:00 a.m. The game is part of a doubleheader that will also involve a contest between two NCAA Division II teams.
Trinity Valley is the champion of the Southwest Junior College Football Conference and received an automatic bid to the bowl game. The Cardinals are 9-2 and have won their last eight games after a 1-2 start. It will be TVCC’s first bowl game appearance since 2011, when the Cardinals lost to Butler CC, 21-17, at the Citizen’s Bank Bowl in Pittsburg, Kansas.
MCC had an 8-2 record and earned an at-large bowl bid to the H.O.T. Bowl. This will be the Thunderbirds second straight bowl game, following last year’s appearance in the Valley of the Sun Bowl. It marks the first time MCC has played in consecutive bowl games since the 1975-76 seasons and the Thunderbirds’ 11th post-season appearance overall.
