BRENHAM – McLennan Community College moved to 10-0 on the season with an 88-84 win over Blinn College Wednesday night in Brenham.
The Highlanders jumped out to a 12-8 lead less than four minutes into the game. The Buccaneers responded with an 11-0 run to take the 19-12 lead midway through the half. MCC cut the lead to two with 2:26 to play in the half. Blinn ended the half on a 6-3 run to take the 42-35 advantage at the half.
The Highlanders came out on fire in the second half, taking the 50-49 lead with 15:22 remaining in the game. Blinn regained the lead on the next possession and extended it to six. MCC rallied to take the 67-66 lead with just over seven minutes to go. The Highlanders led 82-78 with 1:42 on the clock. The Buccaneers cut the lead to two with 2.1 seconds to go. Sophomore D. J. Weathers drained two free throws in the final second to seal the win.
Sophomore Tevin Hanner led McLennan with 17 points and Weathers scored 15. Freshman Jalen Jones added 14 and sophomore Wayne Langston scored 11.
The Highlanders return to action in the Bossier Parrish (La.) Classic on Friday, taking on Bossier Parrish at 8 p.m.
