ATHENS, GA. – The Baylor softball teams heads back to the NCAA Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2011 after sweeping Georgia in their Super Regional on Saturday.

Baylor sophomore Linsey Hays hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Lady Bears a 4-3 lead over Georgia. It was Hays’ 13th of the season and 2nd career postseason homerun.

“I think the whole game we responded every time Georgia got a run and that was key,” Hays said.

The Lady Bears added two more runs in the sixth inning courtesy of Georgia fielding errors and cruised to a 6-3 win and punched a ticket for Baylor’s third appearance at the WCWS.

“So proud of the girls all year long and worked hard for this moment,” Baylor head coach Glenn Moore said.

“It’s time for people to get off the SEC kick,” he added. “There are other conferences out there, the Big 12 deserves respect and we earned it today.”

Senior Whitney Canion was in the circle for the Lady Bears once again giving up three runs on eight hits with 7 strikeouts and 5 walk in a complete game win.

“It was huge to minimize the big inning,” Canion said. “I thought giving up one here or there was good especially the way we responded.”
