AUSTIN – Jessica Tomchesson had an inside-the-park home run, two singles and drove in two runs to help Crawford advance to their second Class 2A championship game in three years with a 9-2 win at at the University of Texas’ McCombs Field on Wednesday.
Baylor signee Tomchesson led off the bottom of the first with a single and later scored to help the Lady Pirates tie the game after the Lady Brahmas took an early 1-0 lead with an RBI double by Mariah Nichols.
Tomchesson had an RBI single in the second and scored on an error to give Crawford a 3-1 lead. She added her solo home run as part of a three-run sixth inning that helped Crawford put the game out of reach.
Carrigan Chambers (20-1), a Temple College signee, picked up the win for Crawford (34-1-1). She allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Nichols (27-5) was the losing pitcher, allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits with six strikeouts and five walks in six innings.
“Carrigan did a great job for us pitching today,” Crawford coach Kirk Allen told WacoTrib.com. “I’m proud of her. She’s always come through for us down here. That’s the third game she’s pitched for us down here, so she’s done a great job. That was really good.”
Tori Phillips, a Temple College signee, and Ashton Chambers each had multiple hits for Crawford. Cheyenne Lynch and a Baylor signee Sydney Christensen both added two-run doubles.
McKayla Dickey was 2-for-3 for Lone Oak (28-6).
Crawford will face East Bernard for the 2A title at 6 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Field.
