WACO – Three former and one current McLennan Community College golfers are competing in tournaments on the national level this summer.
Former golfers Jerry Smith and Steen Tinning are competing in the U.S. Senior Open at Oak Tree National in Edmond, Oklahoma, this week. Smith led the Highlanders to the school’s first NJCAA National Championship in 1984, placing first individually to earn NJCAA All-American while playing for McLennan. Tinning won three tournaments as a member of the Highlander squad in 1981.
Andrew Hans, a Highlander golfer in 2013 and 2014, has qualified for the USGA U.S. Amateur Championship to be held Aug. 11-17 on the Highlands Course of the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia. While at McLennan, Hans led the Highlanders to two top-10 finishes at the NJCAA Division I National Championships. He has signed to play for Baylor University in the fall.
McLennan sophomore Nick Krsnak will play in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at the Sands Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas, next week.
