Baylor’s TJ Holmes Places Third At World Junior Championships

baylorbearsEUGENE, Ore. – Baylor track and field freshman TJ Holmes took third in the IAAF World Junior Championships 400-hurdle finals with a time of 50.07 Friday at Hayward Field.

Holmes started strong, but faded down the stretch as Jamaica’s Jaheel Hyde (49.29) and Bahrain’s Ali Khamis (49.55) took first and second. To close out his season, Holmes ran an identical time to his fourth-place showing at the NCAA Championships in June.

“TJ has had a tremendous freshman season and ended a very long season on a great note tonight.”- head coach Todd Harbour said.

With Trayvon Bromell running the second leg, the United States’ 4×100-meter relay team, took second in its heat with a time of 39.43. The USA’s quartet was unable to hold on to an early lead as the Japanese team closed well to win the heat in 39.23. With the runner-up finish, the United States automatically advanced to Saturday’s final. Bromell will look to net a gold medal as he runs for the United States 4×100-meter relay team in the finals of the event at 5:35 p.m. (7:35 p.m. CT) on Saturday.
