ROUND ROCK – For the second time in less than week, the Copperas Cove volleyball team swept Stony Point 25-19, 25-10, 25-17 at Round Rock on Tuesday night.
The Lady Dawgs (11-1) and Lady Tigers (6-5) stayed tight in the first set, until Stony Point took a timeout to regroup with Copperas Cove leading at 17-14. After the timeout, the Lady Dawgs began to pull away to a 23-16 lead. The Lady Tigers made one last effort to make a comeback, but came up short and lost the set 25-19.
“Volleyball is a game of momentum and it can change on a dime,” Copperas Cove head coach Cari Lowery said.
The Lady Dawgs dominated the second set with a rally of 11 consecutive points and built a comfortable 23-6 lead, which they carried to a 25-10 win.
In the third set, Copperas Cove and Stony Point battled until the Lady Dawgs took a 17-14 lead, and began to pull away for a 25-17 win.
Copperas Cove previously swept Stony Point 25-16, 25-21, during pool play at the Austin ISD Jason Landers Invitational Tournament on Thursday at Burger Center in Austin.
The Lady Dawgs travel to play in the Granbury Tournament this weekend.
