GEORGETOWN – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team earned its first overtime win of the season Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 win over Whitworth.
Neither team was able to generate a scoring offense in the first half, leaving the contest scoreless at the break. Whitworth was the first to strike in the second half when Tiara Pajimola buried a shot into the lower left corner to give Whitworth the 1-0 advantage. UMHB responded in the 75th minute when Kat Parker won the ball 20 yards out and bounced it in for the equalizer. The game remained tied at the end of regulation, forcing the contest into overtime. UMHB took advantage of the overtime situation early when Kat Parker found Cameron Shivers in front of the goal, giving Shivers her first collegiate goal and UMHB the 2-1 win.
The Cru totaled 16 shots in the contest while Whitworth recorded 14. Parker led the Cru with six shots while Danielle Struxness added four. Courtney Craig earned the win in the net for the Cru, allowing just one goal and making three saves in the match.
UMHB returns to action Friday, September 12th in a 4 p.m. match at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. The Cru will then return home to take on Austin College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 13th.
