BELTON – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football players Deshon Kinsey and Eric Allen have been named American Southwest Conference Players of the Week for their performances in the Cru’s 43-7 victory over Millsaps College on Saturday. Kinsey was named ASC Defensive Player of the Week and Allen took Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Kinsey, a senior linebacker from Mart High School, posted a team-high nine tackles, forced a fumble and had two tackles for loss as the Cru held Millsaps to just 218 yards of total offense. UMHB forced four turnovers by the Majors and held Preseason All-American running back Mike Barthelemy to just 40 yards rushing on 16 carries in the victory.
Allen, a senior safety/punt returner from San Antonio Stevens High School, returned a third-quarter punt 55 yards for a touchdown. He finished with 73 yards on five punt returns and also added four tackles on defense in the UMHB win.
The Cru is 1-0 to start the season. UMHB will return to action with a 6:00 PM home game against University of Redlands on Saturday, September 13th, at Crusader Stadium. The Cru leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs 3-0.
