ALPINE – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned its first conference win of the 2014 season in a 3-0 sweep of Sul Ross State University Tuesday evening in Alpine. The win improved the Cru to 6-2 overall while the Lobos fell to 4-5.
UMHB took control of the match early with a 25-13 opening-set win, followed by consecutive set victories of 25-21, 25-15. Abby Voskuil led UMHB with 10 kills?while Bianca Patterson added seven. Shelby Prather recorded 22 assists in the match while Natasha Evans added 13. On the defensive side, Kendra Feldmann had a team-high 13 digs while Cheyenne Dowdey had three blocks. UMHB totaled 35 kills for a .296 hitting percentage while the Lobos had 30 kills for a .060 percentage.
UMHB returns to action Friday, September 12th at the Trinity University Tournament in San Antonio. The Cru opens the tournament with a 1 p.m. match against the University of Puget Sound on Friday. UMHB returns home to host Hardin-Simmons University on Tuesday, September 16th at 6 p.m.
