BELTON – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball players Abby Voskuil and Cheyenne Dowdey have been named the American Southwest Conference Players of the Week for the week ending Sept. 6th.

Voskuil, a sophomore outside hitter from Georgetown (Georgetown H.S.), was named Offensive Player of the Week after a solid performance at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational. She totaled 45 kills in 173 total attacks in four matches, including a match-high 19 kills against No. 6 Emory. Voskuil also served seven aces and added 52 digs. She led the Cru in kills in two matches and helped UMHB to a 2-2 record in the tournament.

Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Dowdey, a junior middle hitter from Hallettsville (Hallettsville H.S.). Dowdey totaled 13 solo blocks and 11 block assists in four matches, adding 33 kills and 13 digs. Dowdey’s solid blocking performance at the net also helped her break the UMHB career record for block assists. Her 242 block assists as a junior surpassed the previous record of 238, set by Tina Miller (2009-12).

UMHB went 2-2 over the weekend with wins over Chapman University and Occidental College. The Cru was one of just two teams to take a set from No. 4 California Lutheran and the only school to take No. 6 Emory to five sets this season. UMHB sits at 5-2 on the year and opens American Southwest Conference play today in a 4 p.m. match at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
