TEMPLE – Over the past couple of weeks the Temple High School Volleyball team has had early success against their opponents, however were unable to walk away with a victory. On Tuesday night, the Tem-Cats started out fast on the visiting Waco High Lady Lions but unlike previous games, the Tem-Cats were able to finish off the Lady Lions in three games by scores of 25-10, 25-21, 25-10 at Wildcat Gym.

Temple was paced most of the night by Jenna Green’s 12 kills and 7 digs while Tiffani Mays attacked the net for 7 kills on the evening. Senior setter Angel Rivera set up most of those kills dishing out 20 assist to set up the offense.

In the first game, Waco stayed close with the Tem-Cats and were tied early at 8-8 when Temple went on a 13-0 run paced by the serving of Madison Nieto who picked up four aces on the night. Temple coasted easily in Game 1, 25-10 as Jenna Green closed out the game with one of her dozen kills.

In Game 2, Temple jumped out 7-1 only to see the Lady Lions tie the game at 18-18. However, several errors by Waco gave the Tem-Cats a 25-21 victory.

Waco actually led Temple early in game 3 but the Tem-cats slowly regained the momentum but with the Tem-cats leading 23-20, kills from Green and Mays delivered the first Tem-Cat victory on district play since 2012.

Temple (1-4 in 17-5A, 4-17 on the season) will host Manor on Friday which is also (1-4) to close out the first half of district play. Temple trails University and Elgin at (3-2) which are tied for third place at this point.
