umhbshieldlogoMARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s soccer team edged East Texas Baptist University 2-1 Saturday night in Marshall. The win improved the Cru to 4-4-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers moved to 2-3-2 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Nathaniel Fagnant gave UMHB the early 1-0 lead with a goal off an assist from Colby Case in the 17th minute. McKenna Cook gave UMHB some security in the 29th minute off a goal from a penalty shot. The Cru held that lead until the 84th minute when Benito Bustos found the back of the net for the Tigers. East Texas Baptist was not able to score again, giving UMHB the 2-1 win.

Fagnant led the Cru with six shots, followed by two from Jorge Marquez, Ben Hammonds and Oliver Ortiz. Javier Zaragoza earned the win in the net, allowing one goal and making eight saves on 16 shots faced. UMHB took three corner kicks in the match to the Tigers’ five. Juan Perales took the loss for ETBU, making six saves and allowing two goals.

The Cru returns to action Friday in a 7 p.m. match against Hardin-Simmons University at the Cru Sports Plex in Belton.
