MARSHALL – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team dropped its first conference match of the season in a 3-2 loss to East Texas Baptist University Saturday afternoon in Marshall. The loss drops the Cru to 15-4 on the season and 7-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers move to 9-8 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
East Texas Baptist grabbed an early lead with a 25-18 first-set win. The Cru responded with back-to-back 25-23, 25-17 set wins to lead the match 2-1 before the Tigers grabbed a 25-22 fourth-set and 15-13 fifth-set to win the match 3-2.
Kendall Pye led the Cru with 15 kills while Abby Voskuil had 13, Lauren Powell had 10 and Cheyenne Dowdey had 10. Shelby Prather recorded a match-high 36 assists followed by Pye’s 21. On the defensive side, Powell led the Cru with 21 digs while Kendra Feldmann added 20. Dowdey also recorded six solo blocks and five block assists en route to a team-total 16. UMHB hit 64 kills for a .192 hitting percentage while the Tigers had 60 kills for a .190 percentage.
UMHB returns to action Saturday in a 2 p.m. match against Sul Ross State University in Belton.
