MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team used a pair of two-goal halves to beat the East Texas Baptist University Tigers 4-0 Saturday evening in Marshall. The win improved the Cru to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers fell to 4-3-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference play.
Briana Hester was the first Crusader to strike, converting a penalty kick in the sixth minute for a 1-0 lead. Cameron Shivers found the back of the net in the 25th minute off an assist from Kathryn Parker to give UMHB a 2-0 lead. Hester again scored off a penalty kick, scoring off a kick from midfield in the 68th minute for the Cru’s third goal beforeDanielle Struxness scored her first collegiate goal in the 79th minute off an assist from Kristen Hoelscher.
UMHB took 15 shots in the contest, led by four from Hester and Parker and limited the Tigers to just four shots. Courtney Craig earned the win in the net for the Cru, playing just over 78 minutes and recording three saves. UMHB allowed three corner kicks in the match and took just one in the first half. Christina Salas took the loss for ETBU, making eight saves and allowing four goals in a full 90 minutes for the Tigers.
The Cru returns to action Friday in a 5 p.m. match against Hardin-Simmons University at the Cru Sports Plex in Belton.
