WACO – Famed sports anchor Ed Sorensen will join KWTX-TV as evening sports anchor beginning Monday, October 13, KWTX Media announced on Friday.
“This region has been a hotbed for sports, Baylor’s recent athletics success, UT rebuilding just down the road and Aggies exceeding expectations,” KWTX Media Vice-President and General Manager Mike Wright said in the press release. “Add over 80 local high schools and professional teams within driving distance, and it creates almost a perfect storm for a pro like Ed Sorensen.”
Sorensen brings more than 25 years of sports broadcasting experience to KWTX, including 18 years as sports director at WRTV-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana before leaving to become a stay-at-home father.
KWTX Sports Director Sean Giggy will continue to lead KWTX Sports operations on-air and online. Giggy joined KWTX as weekend sports anchor in October 2012 and was promoted to Sports Director in January 2014.
“Adding Ed Sorensen to the area’s most trusted anchor team gives viewers in Central Texas one more reason to make KWTX News 10 their source for local news,” said Mikel Lauber, KWTX News Director. “Ed delivers sports in a way that makes it just as interesting and relevant to the non-sports fan as it is to the die-hards. We couldn’t be more excited to have him on our team.”
“I just love the human drama of sports, how great performers respond in high pressure scenarios,” said Sorensen. “My coverage will probably be different than anything folks have seen in Central Texas before. I don’t take it very seriously at all. I just like to have fun.
