BELTON – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Sul Ross State 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 16-4 on the season and 8-1 in American Southwest Conference play while the Lobos fell to 5-16 overall and 1-10 in conference action.
The first set was a back-and-forth rally with neither team able to generate a sustainable lead. UMHB beat two set-points and won the first-set 29-27 off a solo block from Cheyenne Dowdey. The Cru then won consecutive sets 25-16, 25-21 to earn the 3-0 sweep of the Lobos.
Lauren Powell led the Cru with 12 kills while Natasha Evans added nine and Kendall Pye and Dowdey each added seven. Evans led the Cru with 22 assists while Prather added 12 and Pye had 11. Defensively, Kendra Feldmann led the Cru with 14 digs while Abby Voskuil added ten. Dowdey ended the match with three solo blocks one block assist. UMHB totaled 45 kills for a .115 hitting percentage and limited the Lobos to 34 kills and a .242 percentage.
UMHB returns to action with a pair of home matches this week, opening with Howard Payne at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14th at the Mayborn Campus Center. The Cru will also host Concordia Texas on Friday, October 17th at 7 p.m.
