BELTON – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Howard Payne 3-0 Tuesday evening in Belton. The win improves the Cru to 17-4 on the season and 9-1 in American Southwest Conference play while the Yellow Jackets move to 1-18 overall and 1-11 in conference action.
Both teams exchanged points early before the Cru pulled away, going on a 8-4 run halfway through the first to gain advantage, taking the first set 25-12. UMHB trailed early in the second set, but again a 6-2 rally to tie the match at 20 then pulled away for the 25-23 set win. The Cru maintained a steady lead throughout the third, taking the 25-18 set-win and the 3-0 match victory.
Abby Voskuil led the Cru with 17 kills while Cheyenne Dowdey added 11. Kendall Pye assisted 21 assists while Natasha Evans had 19. On the defensive side, Kendra Feldmann recorded 22 digs while Pye added 15 and Voskuil had 10. Bianca Patterson led the Cru with four block assists en route to a team-total 6. UMHB totaled 46 kills for a .317 hitting percentage and limited the Yellow Jackets to 21 kills and a .107 percentage.
UMHB returns to action Friday, October 17th in a 7 p.m. match against Concordia Texas at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
