BELTON – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team grabbed a 3-1 win over Concordia Texas Friday night in Belton. The Cru improved to 18-4 on the season and 10-1 in American Southwest Conference play while the Tornados fell to 10-11 on the season and 5-6 in conference action.
Concordia Texas took early control of the first set, leading by as many as four early. UMHB tied the match at 11 and again at 23 before the Tornados pulled away, taking a 26-24 first-set win. UMHB responded with a solid second-set, rebounding from a 2-3 deficit with an 11-2 rally. Concordia Texas was not able to respond, giving UMHB the 25-13 set-win. The Cru again took early control of the third set, grabbing a 10-1 lead taking the set 25-10 and the following fourth-set, 25-18.
Lauren Powell led the Cru with 16 kills while Kendall Pye and Natasha Evans each added 10. Shelby Prather led the Cru with 21 assists while Evans added 17 and Pye added 10. Defensively, Kendra Feldmann led the Cru with 30 digs while Evans added 19, Powell had 15 and Voskuil had 14. UMHB totaled 56 kills for a .301 hitting percentage, adding 10 service aces and two team blocks.
UMHB returns to action Tuesday, October 21st in a 6 p.m. match against Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
