SAN ANTONIO – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golf team could not hold on to its first round lead as the Cru women finished in a tie for third place at the Alamo City Classic Tuesday in San Antonio.

The Cru women posted a final round 326 to finish with a 315-326=641 team total. Houston-Victoria stormed back to win the tournament, firing a 318-315=633 to finish eight strokes ahead of UMHB. Schreiner University took second place with a 317-322=639. Southwestern University finished in a tie for third with the Cru after recording a 326-315=641 score. Tournament host Trinity University finished fifth at 328-321=649, Concordia Texas carded a 340-340=680 for sixth place, U.T.-Brownsville took seventh with a 339-343=682, Trinity’s “B” team was eighth at 342-345=687 and Texas Lutheran finished in ninth place after shooting 369-383=752.

McKenzie Ralston posted the best individual finish for the UMHB women. Ralston tied for third place individually after carding a 76-78=154.Ashley Garbade tied for 12th place with a 79-82=161, Deana Gonyea‘s 77-88=165 was good for 20th place, Kaley Jackson tied for 21st place with an 83-83=166 and Emily Ming finished 28th with an 87-83=170. Heather Shake of Houston-Victoria won the individual title after shooting 72-71=143.

The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-71, 5,813-yard layout at The Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio. The UMHB women will close out the fall schedule with a trip to the Abilene Intercollegiate next week. That tournament will be played at Diamondback Golf Club on October 27th and 28th.
