TYLER – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s soccer team tied the University of Texas at Tyler 2-2 in a double-overtime contest Saturday evening in Tyler. The tie moves the Cru to 7-4-2 on the season and 4-1-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Patriots moved to 11-1-2 overall and 7-0-2 in conference play.
Briana Hester scored five minutes into the game for the Cru, giving UMHB the 1-0 lead. Brittany Matthews cut that lead short 56 seconds later, scoring the equalizer for the Patriots. U.T.-Tyler scored again in the 27th minute and led the game 2-1 at the half. UMHB was not able to score again until the 89th minute when Kathryn Parker assisted an equalizer from Amanda Carlough, tying the game at 2-2 and sending the contest into overtime. Neither team was able to score in either overtime, resulting in a 2-2 tie for the Cru.
UMHB recorded 14 shots in the contest, led by Hester’s six and Parker’s five. The Patriots recorded 36 shots but only four in the combined overtime periods. UMHB put up two shots in the first overtime and four in the second. Courtney Craig earned the tie in the net for the Cru, making 12 saves in the contest. Paige Harris took the tie for the Patriots, making five saves.
UMHB returns to action Friday, October 31st in a 1 p.m. match against University of the Ozarks at the Cru Sports Plex in Belton.
