BELTON – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Duane Thompson has been named American Southwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Cru’s 72-16 victory over nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran University. Thompson is the first UMHB player to claim ASC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.
Thompson, a freshman running back from Washington D.C., tied a school single-game record with four rushing touchdowns, all of them in the first half, against the Bulldogs. Thompson finished with 60 yards on nine carries and sat out much of the second half with the game in hand. Thompson tied a school record held by four other players and last accomplished by Quincy Daniels in a win over Christopher Newport in the 2010 postseason.
The Cru is 7-0 overall and has a 2-0 mark in ASC play on the season. UMHB will host Hardin-Simmons University in a match-up of the only two teams still unbeaten in ASC play this Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Cowboys are 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the ASC following a 51-20 victory over Howard Payne University last Saturday. HSU has won five straight games entering the showdown with UMHB.
