STEPHENVILLE (TheFlash.Today) – Stephenville star quarterback and Texas Tech pledge Jarrett Stidham is undergoing surgery Monday after suffering a broken bone in his throwing hand Friday night.

Stidham suffered a clean break of his right hand just above the ring finger. The injury occurred on Stephenville’s opening possession, after Stidham had completed his first pass attempt and rushed just once.

The typical recovery time is for such an injury is 6-8 weeks, however, some are saying it is possible to return after four weeks.

Backup quarterback Anthony Chavarria put up phenomenal numbers given the situation. He passed for 380 yards and six touchdowns, leading Stephenville to season highs in scoring and total offense with 611 yards in the 64-57 loss.

The playoff-bound Yellow Jackets are idle this week and conclude their regular season at home against Abilene Wylie on Friday, Nov. 7.

Stidham, an Elite 11 fraternity member and Under Armour All-American, has passed for 2,148 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 590 yards and eight scores. He’s accounted for 2,738 yards and 32 touchdowns with just one interception.
