BELTON – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Eric Nelson has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for the week ending October 25th. Nelson was honored for his performance in the Cru’s 72-16 victory over nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran University last Saturday.
Nelson, a senior tight end from Canyon Lake High School, caught three passes for 103 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win. His 72-yard touchdown grab early in the second quarter gave UMHB a 17-6 lead and providing the launching point as the Cru exploded for 35 points in the period. Nelson also had a 30-yard reception and added a one-yard scoring grab in the third quarter. He posted his second consecutive 100-yard receiving game.
The Cru is now 7-0 overall and has a 2-0 record in American Southwest Conference play. UMHB will return to action with a 1:00 PM home game against Hardin-Simmons University this Saturday. The Cowboys have won five straight game and are 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the ASC on the year. UMHB and HSU are the only two teams in the ASC without a conference loss this season.
