BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept East Texas Baptist University 3-0 Friday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 21-5 on the season and 13-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers fell to 15-9 overall and 13-2 in conference play.
The first set started evenly with neither team able to gain much of a lead. UMHB then used a 7-2 run to gain leverage on the Tigers, leading the match 21-16 and winning the first set 25-19. The Cru then gained an early 8-3 lead in the second set, never leading by less than two points and taking the second set 25-16. UMHB took control of the third set again, winning the set 25-14 off a match-point kill by Bianca Patterson.
Lauren Powell and Cheyenne Dowdey led the Cru with nine kills each while Abby Voskuil added eight. Kendall Pye recorded 19 assists whileShelby Prather added 15. Defensively, Kendra Feldmann led the Cru with 19 digs while UMHB recorded 52 as a team. Dowdey led the Cru at the line with three solo blocks and two block assists. UMHB hit 44 kills on 91 attempts for a .363 average as a team and limited the Tigers to 26 kills on 99 attempts for a .051 percentage.
UMHB will close the regular season tomorrow in a 3 p.m. match against LeTourneau University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
