UMHB beats LeTourneau and clinches ASC regular season volleyball title

BELTON – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win moves the Cru to 22-5 overall and 14-2 in American Southwest Conference play. More importantly, the victory, coupled with ETBU’s loss to Concordia Texas, clinches the ASC regular season title for UMHB and earns the Cru the right to host the ASC Championship Tournament next week. LeTourneau ends its season at 10-21 overall and 4-12 in the ASC on the season.

UMHB dominated the first and third sets on the way to a 25-11, 25-20, 25-14 victory over the Yellowjackets. The Cru hit .207 as a team and added 9.0 team blocks. LeTourneau hit just .068 as a team and surrendered nine service aces to UMHB.

Abby Voskuil and Cheyenne Dowdey led the Cru with eight kills apiece and Dowdey added three solo blocks and four block assists. Shelby Prather had 17 assists, while Kendall Pye chipped in 14 more. Kendra Feldmann led the team with 17 digs and Prather (13) and Pye (11) also reached double figures.

The ASC Championship Tournament will be played at the Mayborn Campus Center November 6-8th. UMHB will be hosting the tournament for the first time since the inaugural ASC Tournament in 1998. The Cru will open the tournament with a 7:30 PM match on Thursday against the winner of the Texas Tyler/Concordia Texas First Round match. The ASC office will send out a release with the complete bracket later on Saturday.
