UMHB sweeps No. 4 U.T.-Tyler in ASC Volleyball Tourney Second Round

BELTON – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s volleyball team swept its Second Round match against No. 4 seed the University of Texas at Tyler 3-0 Thursday night in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 23-5 on the season while the Patriots fell to 16-13.

The first set remained pretty even with both teams tied at 20 until UMHB used a 5-2 run to grab a 25-22 first-set victory. Lauren Powell helped the Cru take control of the second set, serving 10 straight points to help the Cru to a 25-8 win. In the third set, UMHB used a 7-2 run after an 18-18 tie to grab the third set 25-20 and the match 3-0.

Kendall Pye led the Cru with 11 kills while Abby Voskuil added nine. UMHB hit 39 kills in 114 attacks for a .263 hitting percentage as a team. Shelby Prather led the Cru with 21 assists while Pye added 15. Defensively, Kendra Feldmann led the Cru with 16 digs while Powell added 11.Cheyenne Dowdey had a match-high seven blocks in the contest. UMHB totaled 51 digs and eight team blocks in the match. UMHB limited U.T.-Tyler to just 37 kills in 125 attempts for a .080 hitting percentage.

UMHB will advance to face No. 3 U.T.-Dallas in the Semifinal Round on Friday, Nov. 7th at 5 p.m. No. 4 U.T.-Tyler will move to the loser’s bracket and face No. 6 Hardin-Simmons on Friday, Nov. 7th at 12 p.m. You can follow the ASC Volleyball Tournament through live video and live statistics at the following link: http://cruathletics.com/sports/2014/11/2/WVB_1102142720.aspx. Day passes for the tournament are $10 for adults and $5 for students on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, passes will be $8 for adults and $3 for students.
