BELTON – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Eric Allen has been named American Southwest Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Cru’s 84-13 victory over Howard Payne on Saturday. This is the second player of the week honor for Allen this season. He also took ASC Special Teams Player of the Week honors following the season opening victory over Millsaps College.
Allen, a senior defensive back from San Antonio Stevens High School, set a new school record and tied the ASC mark with a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Yellow Jackets. He also added ten tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. Allen helped lead a defense that held the high-powered HPU offense to just 260 total yards and 13 points.
UMHB improved to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in ASC play with the win over Howard Payne. The victory also clinches at least a share of the conference title and guarantees UMHB the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The Cru will close out the regular season this Saturday with a 1:00 PM kickoff at East Texas Baptist (4-5, 1-3 ASC) in Marshall.
