CORSICANA – Five members of the Navarro Bulldogs volleyball team earned All Region XIV Conference recognition by a vote of league coaches.

Earning first-team honors were sophomore outside hitter Hailee Showers and MB Kelsi Schmidtberger.  Freshman setter Gabriela Del Mar Rosa was named to the second team. Honorable mention votes went to freshman DS Glorines Rosado and sophomore DS/L Lexey Wilson.

All played feature roles for a hard-working, relentless volleyball team’s rise to regular NJCAA ranking,  a 17-win improvement for the season, and qualify for a spot in the Region XIV Volleyball Tournament at Lee College’ Sports Arena in Baytown November 8-9.

Showers had an East Zone-leading 474 kills during Navarro’s memorable, re-energized 23-11 season.  She averaged 3.89 kills per set and ranked in second in the conference.

Schmidtberger missed the tournament with injury after a regular season in which she led zone players with 1.08 blocks per set, finished second in hitting percentage (.381), and ranked fifth behind Showers in kills-per-set (3.15).

Del Mar Rosa totaled 1,145 assists during the season and a league-high 392.  She ranked second nationally and in zone with 9.39 assists per set during 2014.

Del Mar Rosa’s Puerto Rican teammate, Rosado, ranked third overall in digs (522) and second in per-game average (4.35). During league play, Rosado was second in both conference categories.
