SAN ANTONIO – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team could not overcome a cold first-half and the Cru fell to Our Lady of the Lake University 95-74 Monday night in San Antonio. The loss drops UMHB to 6-3 on the season. The Saints improve to 9-3 on the year with the victory.
The Cru fought back from an early deficit to take a 15-14 lead before OLLU took control of the game. The Saints led by as many as 15 points and held a double-digit advantage for the final five minutes of the first half before settling for a 52-37 edge at halftime. UMHB battled back and cut it to 12 points midway through the second half but the Saints quickly stretched the lead back to 20 points and pulled away from there for the victory.
Kaci Azbogu topped the Cru with career highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds. She was 7-8 from the field. Alyssa Dean had 15 points and Kourtney Bevers pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. UMHB shot just 7-15 from the free-throw line in the first half and went 24-43 for the game. The Cru was just 2-9 from three-point range and turned the ball over 41 times.
Courtney Bayliss led the Saints with 28 points and Taylor Hamilton had 14 points and six assists. Jessika Montalvo chipped in 13 points. OLLU shot 46 percent from the field in the second half and hit 10-29 from beyond the arc in the victory.
The game closes out non-conference play for the UMHB women on the season. The Cru will return to action with two American Southwest Conference home games next week. UMHB will host LeTourneau University for a 1:00 PM start on January 3rd before taking on East Texas Baptist University in a 5:30 PM tip-off on Monday, January 5th.
