McLennan women fall to Collin in heartbreaker 79-76

WACO – In a heartbreaker, the McLennan Highlassies basketball team fell to the Collin Lady Cougars 79-76 this afternoon at The Highlands.

The Highlassies opened the game with a Kaylin Roher 3-pointer. Collin responded with a 10-0 run to take the 10-3 lead with 17:46 to play in the first half. The Lady Cougars began to pull away, leading by as many as 17, and led 46-32 at the break.

Collin extended the lead to 18, 64-46, with 11:12 remaining in the game but McLennan wasn’t done. The Highlassies used a 12-0 run to cut the lead to six, 64-58, with just under seven minutes to play. McLennan continued to rally, cutting the lead to one with 3:49 to go. The Lady Cougars extended the lead to six with 1:15 to play. Collin led 77-73 with 20 seconds on the clock. Roher drained her seventh 3-pointer with 8.62 seconds to go to pull the Highlassies within one. Krystal Pickron hit two free throws to extend the lead back to three and McLennan’s last second 3-pointer rattled off the rim.

Roher led the Highlassies with 27 points and Re’Elle Miller added 15. Adrienne Drake and Caylinne Martin scored 12 and 11, respectively.

The Highlassies return to action on Wednesday, hosting Temple at 5:30 p.m.
