LUBBOCK – The McLennan Highlanders baseball team fell to the Odessa Wranglers 13-0 in five innings this evening in the Region V Tournament in Lubbock. Nathan Bertness took the loss on the mound for the Highlanders.
Odessa scored three runs in the top of the second. Wesley Jordan singled and scored on a home run by Daniel Richardson. Andres Rios then singled and scored on a double by Cody French.
The Wranglers added three runs in the third. Hunter Douglas doubled and Owen Spiwak was hit by the pitch. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jamie Bustamante. Jordan followed with the three-run homer.
Odessa doubled their lead with six runs in the fourth. French was hit by the pitch and scored on a home run by Reid Battles. Jorin Van Amstel singled and scored on a double by Douglas. Spiwak followed with a fielder’s choice that put Douglas out at third. Spiwak advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jordan then singled to score Spiwak. Richardson drew a walk. Rios followed with a single, scoring Jordan. French then singled to score Richardson.
The final run came in the fifth. Van Amstel was hit by the pitch and Douglas singled. Spiwak hit into a double play, putting Van Amstel on third. Jordan then singled to score Van Amstel.
McLennan will face either Midland or New Mexico in an elimination game at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
