CORINTH, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golf team posted three rounds in the 70’s and the Cru is in second place after the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Monday in Corinth. UMHB fired a 306 team total and sits nine strokes behind the 297 team score carded by U.T.-Tyler. Hardin-Simmons University is in third place after shooting 321, U.C.-Santa Cruz recorded a 345 for fourth place and LeTourneau University rounds out the top five at 348. Concordia Texas is in sixth place with a 362 to close out the six-team field in the tournament.
Emily Ming was the low individual finisher on the opening day with a 73 to hold down third place. Elizabeth Davis is in fourth place after shooting 74 and McKenna Ralston posted 77 for seventh place. Aubrey Starnes and Cassidy Rawls are tied for 13th place after carding 82’s for UMHB. Morgan Loth and Taylor Denton of U.T.-Tyler are tied for the individual lead after shooting 72’s on Monday.
Teams went back out on the course to try to complete nine more holes after completion of the first round. Teams will then tee off at 10:00 AM on Tuesday to close out the second round. The two-day, 36-hole event is being played on a par-72, 5,881-yard layout at Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas. The ASC Tournament champion receives the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
