American Southwest Conference announces Softball Championship Tournament bracket

umhb_logoRICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler posted a 29-0 record against league opponents to win the regular season title and the right to host the 2016 American Southwest Conference Softball Championship Tournament, April 28-30, at Suddenlink Field in Tyler, Texas.

The bracket for the six-team double-elimination ASC Championship was announced Saturday (April 23) following completion of conference play.

No. 1 seed
UT Tyler will get a first round bye and play the winner of game two between No. 4 seed LeTourneau (17-13) and No. 5 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor (16-14) The Patriots are ranked No. 1 in the NFCA top 25 poll, have won two of the last three ASC titles and make their ninth consecutive tournament appearance. The Cru has an 18-32 tournament record and makes their seventh straight tournament appearance and 17th overall. The YellowJackets are 3-4 in tournament play and have three tournament appearances all coming in the last three seasons.

No. 2 seed
East Texas Baptist (24-5) will also receive a first round bye. The Tigers will meet the winner of No. 3 seed UT Dallas(18-12) and No. 6 seed Louisiana College (15-15). East Texas Baptist leads the ASC with seven conference championships and a 40-21 tournament record. The runner-up in the last two ASC tournaments, the Tigers lead the ASC with 17 consecutive tournament appearances. The Comets make their sixth tournament appearance with a 5-10 record and the Wildcats make their fifth straight tournament appearance and 13th overall. LC ranks second in the ASC with a 33-19 tournament record and have won three ASC titles.

The 2016 ASC Softball Championship Tournament is the 18th postseason event dating back to 1999. The ASC tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
